The Bertolin family has been in the restaurant business for more than 170 years, handing down the passion and tradition of Veneto cuisine from generation to generation.
Some documents from the mid-19th century show that the Bertolin family, with its ancestor Gio Batta Bertolin, was already operating as a bettola before 1849, the year of his death and the passing of the business to his son Valentino.
The earliest photographs found depict the building in Via Altichiero around the 1920s, when the trattoria was located near the only road connecting Padua and Bassano, thus becoming a reference point for all the merchants arriving by wagon from the north.
Having survived the two world wars, the trattoria has maintained over the years the classic arched structure typical of the houses of the past, making it one of the oldest restaurants in Padua and the Veneto region.
Regarding the origins of the Bertolin family, it seems that they derive from Austria since a certain prince Von Berthold, coming to Padua around 1200, decided to stop at the gates of the city, in an area called Croce (today Altichiero).
Altichiero would in fact derive from the combination of the words ALTI and CHIARI, a reference quite in keeping with the Nordic characteristics of the Austrians.
